Microfiber can be made from different types of material such as nylon, polyester, olefin, acrylic, or rayon. It is important to know what type of fabric your couch is made of, or at least to have the manufacturer’s tag with their corresponding cleaning codes to determine the proper method and cleaning solution for your furniture. For example, a different cleaning method has to be used for those fabrics made out of rayon, which carries code “S” for solvent-based cleaning; this generally can only be done by a professional upholstery cleaner. Whether you need to hire a professional or you can clean your furniture on your own, your upholstery will come out looking like new!

To determine what type of cleaning method to use on your microfiber upholstery, check the manufacturer’s tag for one of the following codes.

  • Code “W” – This fabric requires that you only use water-based cleaning agents.

  • Code “S” – This fabric requires that you use solvent-based cleaning agents or dry cleaning products. Often, when you see an “S” code, the best option is to have a professional perform the cleaning service for you.

  • Code “W-S” – This fabric can be cleaned using either water-based or solvent-based cleaners.

Things You Will Need to Clean a Microfiber “W” sofa:

  • Spray bottle

  • White vinegar

  • Baking soda

  • Rubbing alcohol

  • Soft brush

  • White microfiber cloth

Step 1:

Remove the cushions from the couch and Vacuum your couch

Step 2:

Clean the sofa using a slightly damp (with warm water) microfiber cloth to get rid of surface dirt(Inspect material type first before use of water on textile). Be sure to use a white microfiber cloth to prevent staining.

For tougher stains, you can use rubbing alcohol or clear alcohol by applying it with a spray bottle. Spray it on the affected areas and scrub it with a white microfiber cloth or a soft brush.

Step 3:

After it dries scrub the surface of the fabric with a soft, clean scrub brush in a circular motion. It helps soften up the fabric.

For pet stains and vomit stains, use a mixture of warm water and white vinegar (50:50 ratio)

Spray on the affected area and scrub it using a white microfiber cloth or a soft brush.

For tough odors, use baking soda by spreading it on the affected area for 24 hours and vacuum it the following day.
