Top 7 reasons it’s important to have regular upholstery cleaning

You read your favorite book on it, take naps after a long day’s work on it, have the kids’ friends over for a sleepover on it, and gather around it to watch that one show everyone in the family likes. What are we talking about? Your furniture, and your furniture upholstery, to be more precise. Because you do so much life on and around your furniture, regular upholstery cleaning is just as important as regular carpet cleaning. That’s right: your couches, chairs, sectionals, ottomans, and anything else with fabric needs to be deep cleaned just like your carpets.

Here are the top 7 reasons it’s important to have regular upholstery cleaning:

  1. Air Quality

Every time you sit, lie, plop, or move around on your upholstered furniture, you’re unknowingly releasing dust, dirt, grime, mold spores, dead skin, and bacteria into the air of your home. Of course, having your upholstery full of dust, allergens, mold, mildew, or old stains can negatively affect the quality of the air in your home.

While good air filters and household plants help filter out those allergens, removing them completely from the upholstery means they aren’t there to be picked up by the filter, to begin with. And, complete removal of allergens and dust is always ideal for a clean home with clean air.

  1. Health

Did you know that the allergens, dust mites, fleas, mold, and bacteria can get into the fibers of your upholstery, and left too long, they all could cause a wide range of allergies and illness? Also, if you have anyone with sensitivities to dust or mold, this will only impact them more. Keeping up on regular upholstery cleaning drastically reduces the presence of these irritants, and in turn, helps to keep your home and family healthy.

  1. Odors

The family couch or sectional is where a lot of life happens. You’ve engaged in countless movie nights, eaten dozens of TV dinners, fought off illnesses, and watched hundreds of TV shows and cartoons. If you have a baby or toddler, the couch has been a changing table and feeding station. For most families, the living room furniture becomes the favorite spot for homework or running an at-home business, and you can bet it is your pet’s favorite spot to wait for you to come home.

Clearly, a lot happens on your furniture, and sometimes it’s all too obvious because of the odor. Plus, cooking odors from the kitchen have a way of staying on your upholstery, which also contributes to an unpleasant smell. Upholstery cleaning helps remove those odors by removing the source.

  1. A Longer Life for Your Furniture

Your furniture is an investment, and oftentimes an expensive one. Whether it’s just regular wear and tear, or spilled milk, body oil and grease, cleaning your furniture regularly can extend the life of your investment.

  1. Appearance

You know those stains couches collect that you’ve tried covering up with a blanket or pillow, and when company comes over you feel embarrassed? Of course, we all do!

Whether they’re from kids and animals, or just being old and experiencing normal wear and tear, we use our furniture on a daily basis. And no matter how clean your house and carpets might be, if the upholstery on your furniture looks dirty and grimy, the rest of the house isn’t going to feel clean.

The easy solution is to have your carpet cleaning professional add-in upholstery cleaning while also cleaning your carpets.

  1. Your House Experienced Water or Smoke Damage

Accidents happen and are sometimes out of our control. A roof leak or a minor stove fire can cause water or smoke damage. Part of that damage is done to the upholstery of your furniture. While you might be inclined to just throw out the furniture and start over, you would be surprised what a good upholstery cleaning can do.

Our technicians are IICRC certified and ready to help you clean up the water/smoke damage your home and furniture experienced.

  1. Durability

You know that faded, thinning look your furniture upholstery can get? That’s caused by dust and dirt, which act like bits of sandpaper rubbing on the fabric. Regular upholstery cleaning removes this dust and improves the durability of the upholstery, making sure your furniture lasts a long time.

Avoid DIY Upholstery Cleaning

Tip: While many people are tempted to clean their own upholstery, we encourage you not to. One of the reasons professional carpet and upholstery cleaning is so effective is because we know what issues can arise and we work to prevent those issues from damaging your furniture and rugs. Also, we are able to fully extract moisture from your furnishings. Leftover water and moisture can be a significant problem causing:

  • Mold
  • Mildew
  • Further staining

Many of the cleaning machines you can buy from a store do not have the power that truck-mounted water extraction equipment has. Because of this, even though you might feel like you’ve gotten all the moisture out of the upholstery, there still could be more hiding that hasn’t yet come to the surface.

You Can Trust Wiz Team To Handle Your Upholstery with Care

One of the first things we do when we come to clean upholstery is to check the upholstery condition to guard against any problems. These include:

  • Cushion shrinkage
  • Texture damage
  • Color fading
  • Dye bleeding

At Wiz Team, Inc. Cleaning & Restoration, we use the hot water extraction method to carefully clean your upholstery, helping it look like new and last longer (where applicable). Some finer textiles are manufactured as dry cleaning only, which we are more than able to handle.  As always, we do recommend that after each cleaning, we apply Kleenguard Protective Finish to help protect against any future spills or stains. Contact us today to schedule your cleaning.

Avoidable Holiday Home Malfunctions

Dear Homeowners,

There are many preparations that need to be completed in the run-up to the festive period: cards need to be mailed, gifts need to be purchased and dinners need to be planned. But amidst all the mayhem, don’t forget to prep your home too.

With all the extra guests arriving for Holiday parties, that means extra strain on your appliances… you don’t want your heating to malfunction on Christmas day and be left in the cold! Here’s our guide to preparing your home for the Holidays if you’re expecting guests.

Winterize Your House

If it gets cold or wet where you live, you need to prepare now before the really bad weather arrives. Avoidable holiday home malfunctions are easier to deal with if you get ahead of the ball! So let us get started. Check or change your air filters to keep your inside air fresh and your system in peak condition. If you want to avoid unnecessary filter changes or clogs, install new filters and be sure to check your system – it is time to act. Also, check window and door seals for air leakage and seal them up. Lastly, ensure the exterior is prepared by maintaining clean gutters – have salt on hand for walkways and stairs to prevent slips and falls. Remember that before winter fully sets in, it might be a good occasion to have your air duct system professionally cleaned before you are couped up all winter long in a stuffy allergy-ridden household!

Inspect Your Heating

Festive parties should be warm and cozy, so make sure your heating unit is in great working order. As well as timely air filter replacement, duct cleaning is an important step to take. To clean your ducts, contact Wiz Team, Inc. for a free in-home consultation. During our consultations we take a look at your system, ensure it is performing at its peak, as well as, assess the time, access, and cost of cleaning your system. A well-tuned, clean heating system operates much more efficiently, is better for the environment and will save you money this Holiday season. That’s more dollars for eggnog and pecan pie!

Check Your Plumbing

Though it might not be polite to mention, more guests means your bathroom gets some extra use…Avoid embarrassing situations with timely preventative maintenance and repairs. Drains should be checked to ensure they are clear – try plunging some water through. For most, minor blockages and a plumber’s snake will do the job. If you can’t seem to get the water flowing right, it may be time to call a plumber. Wiz Team, Inc. only works with the most respectable, timely, and honest plumbing companies. If you need assistance finding a dependable plumber, contact us – we are happy to provide referrals for great home services.

Prep Your Garbage Disposal

Another unit that’s going to get some extra use this Holiday is your garbage disposal. As with all things, prevention is the best cure so give everyone in your household a refresher on what doesn’t go in there. The worst offenders for blocking the garbage disposal are bones, grease, fruit pits, and even potato peel! Be careful if you are going to try and clear a blockage yourself – never put your hand in there! Make sure the unit is switched off and then use a wooden spoon or tongs to loosen or extract the offending item. Remember this article is about avoidable holiday home malfunctions – we want to help you avoid them before they ruin holiday plans.

Post Holiday Clean-Up

If the in-laws and all the extended family have left your beautiful home in somewhat of a disarray – it might be time to call for back-up. Wiz Team, Inc. offers a wide array of home care services such as; 7Ph Carpet Cleaning, Hardwood Floor Cleaning, Upholstery Cleaning, among many other services that you may benefit from. Give our office a call and let us help you take care of the carpet full of crumbs, or perhaps let’s clean those area rugs that had a little too much wine during dinner, or maybe its the hardwood floors that need a bit of TLC after being trampled by all the guests. Whatever your home care cleaning needs may be – we are here to help keep your home beautiful and lovely. Remember, all of our in-home consultations are completely free!

From all of us here at Wiz Team, Inc, we wish you have a Happy and Malfunction Free Holiday Season!

Hazards Hiding Inside Your Carpet

Most people know that a clean environment is better for your health. While you can’t always control the cleanliness of public spaces you interact with, you can make sure that your home is fostering the healthiest environment possible.

Especially before cold and flu season is back in full swing, take the time to protect your family by making sure your carpet isn’t making you sick. Although your carpets appear clean, they can be a host for bacteria, microbes, and other irritants. Below you will find the common list of health issues that could be coming from or made worse by dirty carpet.

Respiratory Issues

Mold, pet hair, old skin, dust, and dirt can all get trapped in your carpets. Daily activity such as walking or vacuuming can free these particles from the carpet and spread them into the air. Can dirty carpets make you sick? This movement of pollutants can lead to respiratory issues such as coughing or difficulty breathing. Individuals who suffer from asthma can feel these symptoms even more intensely, as they’re more vulnerable to such airborne toxins. The American Lung Association advises that pets, as well as children who spend more time on the floor and touch their hands to their mouths, are more at risk of being affected by toxic particles in your carpet. Only proper maintenance and professional cleaning methods can successfully remove these toxic particulates which lay dormant in your carpeting.

Allergies

The same mold and dust mites that can inflame your lungs can also give you red eyes or a runny nose if you suffer from allergies. The buildup in your carpet can easily trigger an allergy attack or make your day-to-day life just a little more unpleasant. If you frequently wake up with drainage or allergy-like symptoms, your carpets should be one of the first places you look to eliminate bacteria and dust mites. (Pro-Tip: The second place is to check your air duct system and if it needs to be cleaned.) Now that fall is here, you might be experiencing sneezing and skin irritation thanks to ragweed and mold. The American College of Allergy, Asthma, & Immunology warns that these irritants can build up in your carpet and that your symptoms can flare up in the immediate hours after vacuuming. This buildup can occur due to the fact that we keep our homes more closed up during the colder months which allows irritants to settle in the carpeting and consistently recirculate in the air when the heating systems kick in.

Skin Irritation

Itchy skin, rashes, athlete’s foot, and eczema are all dirty carpet dangers that can be triggered or made worse by dust mites in the unclean carpet. Even if you maintain a regular cleaning schedule, dust mites are small enough to evade the most diligent home cleaners. Utilizing technologies such as home humidifiers and having the carpeting cleaned on a regular schedule can help in significantly reducing presence of dust mites.

Weakened Immune System

Your body works hard to keep you healthy! Whether you’re at home or at the office, your immune system is constantly fighting off germs and toxins. When you live in an unclean environment, your body is working overtime to fight against bacteria and keep you healthy. It makes sense that your immune system can start to get tired when you’re living in a home where there’s a buildup of germs and toxins in dirty carpets. Babies have developing immunes systems and are frequently in contact with floors, which puts them at a greater risk of getting sick from your carpet. If you have a home with toddlers and small children, frequent vacuuming and professional cleaning are important for keeping your kids healthy.

Pet Germs

If you have animals, keeping your carpets clean is even more important for disease prevention. Animal urine and feces can cause a host of issues in your carpet. From carrying bacteria to creating smells like ammonia that can cause nose and lung irritation, pet waste can be particularly dangerous for small children who are in frequent contact with dirty carpet. The dampness can also increase the risk of mold growth, so immediately treating affected areas is crucial. Especially with cats and dogs that spend time inside and outside of the house, diseases and germs can be easily spread. Fleas and ticks can find their way into your home if you’re not regularly cleaning your pets and your carpets. These pests often cannot be eliminated by cleaning alone, often extreme heat or chemical treatments are required to free your home of these unwanted visitors. As much as we love our pets ensuring we take every necessary precaution to have a clean environment should be at the top of our list.

Stomach Illness

Nothing good comes from wet carpet. But you may not realize just how bad damp carpet can be for your health. The presence of mold can cause a variety of health issues, but the presence of mycotoxins cause severe stomach irritation and infection. According to the International Association of Certified Home Inspectors, mold can go unseen and is even more common in basement carpeting. Your carpet could even be a host for salmonella. While you may think of salmonella as a foodborne disease, this pathogen can be tracked into your home, putting your household, especially children, at risk.

Mental Anguish

Along with the host of physical illnesses that can result from dirty carpet, your mental health can also be affected. Ridding your home of a flea infestation or taking care of sick child is a lot of stress. The American Psychological Association has confirmed that stress produces physical symptoms and leads to a weakened and immune system. So clean carpets won’t just help you stay healthy. They’ll help you stay happy, too. So how do you protect yourself and your family against the health risks of dirty carpet? Regular vacuuming and cleaning does help. However, dirty carpets can also mean a dirty vacuum. To prevent spreading any carpet problems, make sure you are using a vacuum with a true HEPA filter that’s frequently cleaned and regularly change full bags.

Basic cleaning measures alone aren’t enough to ensure that your carpets aren’t a host to pollutants and toxins. It is recommended to have your carpets cleaned professionally every 12 to 18 months to protect against allergens and bacteria. This will ensure that your home is as clean and healthy as possible! Spring is just around the corner! Spring is the perfect time to clean house — both literally and figuratively.

Spring is just around the corner!

Spring is the perfect time to clean house — both literally and figuratively.

The whole purpose of spring cleaning is to give your home a deep cleaning.

After the long, cold and messy months of winter, most homes are ready for a real thorough cleaning that couldn’t be done during the cold days of winter. This is what we as professional cleaners consider the top spring cleaning tips and tactics to get your house deep cleaned.

As we emerge from winter hibernation, we want to share them with you to help both your health and your home get ready for the warmer months as fast and efficiently as possible.

Here goes:

Start At the Front Door

One of the areas you would want to make sure gets a good cleaning is right where people enter the home.

Most folks have a door mat outside the door and right inside the house.

If your outside door mate is washable, take it to the utility sink and soak it in a solution of all purpose cleaner. Take a scrub brush to the mat too so you can really get it clean. You may need to soak it a few times before it’s thoroughly clean. You can also vacuum or swat it outside with a broom. If your outdoor mat is not washable, toss and replace with one that you can clean occasionally.

Next, give the mat inside your home a cleaning too. If your indoor mat is not machine washable, or it is an Oriental Rug, give us a call and we’ll schedule to pick it up and return it to its original beauty.

No matter what method you choose, remember your welcome mat is the first line of defense in keeping dirt out of the house.

Keep Supplies Right at Your Fingertips

When you have to tackle a big housekeeping job you want to make sure to have your cleaning supplies handy and nearby. The best way to accomplish this is to create a “cleaning bucket”.

My favorite storage container for cleaning supplies is a cleaning caddy. It is sturdy, won’t break, has built in handle and can easily store the five or more products most of us use to clean our homes. Plus it can hold all your cleaning tools too!

Just pick it up and bring it with you from room to room and have everything at your fingertips.

Use Products You Love and Do the Trick

I believe a plant-based cleaner works just as well as the chemical-filled ones. I prefer cleaning products that are easy on the environment and safe for my family and pets.

Mrs. Meyer’s Clean Day household products make caring for your home fresh, fun and fragrant. All of their products are made with plant-derived ingredients and essential oils, and are not tested on animals. Every of Mrs. Meyer’s household cleaning product I used is delightful and it is available in most all grocery stores.

Call Wiz Team, Inc. your Professional Cleaning & Restoration Specialists to do it for you. We use professional equipment to speed the drying process, which otherwise can take a day or more. We will take care of all your Upholstery and Carpet Cleaning needs.

Give Your Floors the Attention They Deserve

For daily maintenance of your floor we recommend Bona Free & Simple Hardwood Floor Cleaner with Bona Hardwood Floor Spray Mop. The mop comes with washable microfiber pads.

Depending on the type of your floors you have it will depend on how you care for them. But you’ll want to give them a deep down thorough cleaning to remove all salt, sand or other particles that can cause continued and permanent damage.

If your floors have taken a beating this winter, you may need help from the experts in hardwood floor care to bring them back to their original glory. We use BONA Deep Cleaning System on all hardwood floors. This innovative deep cleaning system is the safest, quickest and easiest way to remove all the dirt, grime and build-up on your hardwood floors. It will help protect your investment, leaving you with beautiful hardwood floors that will last a lifetime. The fast, easy and effective way to spruce up your hardwood floors during your spring cleaning – call your experts in hardwood floor care!

Clean the Refrigerator Coils

Refrigerator’s condenser coil (usually found behind the toe grille) should be cleaned regularly. You can do this by using a long-handled bottle brush or dryer lint trap brush and a vacuum cleaner with an attachment hose to remove dust and pet hairs. Build-up can shut down the unit by causing it to overheat and cause you trouble.

To remove dust from coils that are attached to the hard-to-reach back side of the fridge, carefully pull the refrigerator out several feet and vacuum thoroughly. Vacuum and wash the floor and move the refrigerator back into place.

Put on the Gloves

Spring cleaning usually means a lot of work, so stock up on some rubber gloves. Rubber gloves help you move through your cleaning tasks without worrying about getting your hands dirty or ruining your manicure.

Clean At the Right Time of Day

Make sure you’re cleaning at the right time of day. Use your body’s natural rhythms to find the best time of day. For most people, best time of day to clean the house is starting around 11:00 AM and finishing by 4:00 PM. During this time of the day is when our hand-eye coordination is at its peak and mood levels are high.

If anyone in the house has allergies or asthma, avoid insomnia-hour and morning cleaning sprees (upper respiratory -allergy symptoms are most severe between 6 AM and noon, asthma attacks more likely between midnight and 6 AM), and finish well before that person walks in the door.

Whenever possible schedule your cleaning on a bright sunny days, you’re more likely to whistle while you clean (and not kick over the bucket).

Move Left to Right, Top to Bottom

You want to clean left to right (clockwise) and top to bottom. This way won’t be re-cleaning same areas and won’t miss anything, plus your floors would be the last. This way you’re tidying in a systematic way.

Turn it Up!

Have a little fun too! Nothing will make the time go faster than putting on your favorite tunes. It keeps you motivated and it won’t be boring.

Clean Your Air Duct System or Vents

It’s easy to forget – they’re out of sight out of the mind. Air Duct System cleaning in spring may not be the first thing on your mind, but it’s actually the best time of year to do so.

That dry dust that’s accumulated in your ducts all winter gets sticky and can even cause issues when it’s exposed to the spring and summer humidity.

When spring arrives, trees bud and flowers bloom, so there are a lot of pollens and allergens in the air. Your pet’s fur can also make its way into your ventilation system. And if someone in your home smokes, the chemicals from the cigarettes spread throughout the house through the vents, too.

Cleaning your Air Duct System in spring, before they become a problem, is wise, especially if anyone in your family has respiratory issues.

Cleaning your Air Duct System regularly (every 3 to 5 years), will help you save money in the long run because your system won’t have to work harder to heat or cool your home. Instead, it will work far more efficiently, resulting in a longer lifespan and can help relieve allergy and asthma symptoms this spring.

To avoid all the pollutants getting into your home and wreaking havoc on your family’s respiratory system, clean your air ducts – call your professional air duct system cleaning company.

Back to Basics: How to Keep Carpet Clean in Your Facility – Island Lake, Il

Keeping carpet clean is an easy way to add to the overall appearance of your facility’s interior and CRI is here with some tips to help you keep carpet fresh, clean and lasting, especially with Seal of Approval-certified products.

The following tips cover the different aspects of a maintenance program you will need to keep you carpet looking great all year.

1.      Vacuuming

Vacuuming is the simplest and easiest way to keep carpet clean and lasting. Regular vacuuming is imperative to the life and beauty of your carpet. For high traffic areas, you should vacuum daily. Be sure to use a Seal of Approval-certified vacuum.

2.      Interim Maintenance

Interim maintenance is a recently added aspect to the Seal of Approval program, but that does not minimize its importance. Interim maintenance is a scheduled frequency appearance cleaning for all traffic areas. Its purpose is to refresh carpet with a surface cleaning.

3.      Deep Cleaning

You may know deep cleaning by a number of different names (i.e. hot-water extraction, steam cleaning), but deep cleaning is vital to the life of carpet. An annual deep cleaning will remove the deepest, ground-in dirt residing in your facility’s carpet.

4.      Spot Removal

Spots and stains happen in almost any environment, but the most important thing you can do is treat the stain as soon as it happens. This will dramatically reduce the chance of the spot or stain resoiling. Wiz Team Solutions are tested and certified for their ability to effectively remove stains and minimize resoiling.

As mentioned earlier, following these tips will allow you to keep your carpet beautiful and lasting throughout the year.

The Wiz Team is a full service carpet cleaning and restoration service. Home Carpet Installation Checklist – Ingleside, IL

Proper installation of carpet is vitally important to the life of your carpet. If carpet is not correctly installed, it can cause a number of issues that can affect the look and useful life of the carpet.

1.    Check for Carpet Recycling Options in Your Area

Before getting your new carpet installed, you need to properly remove your old carpet. Many people recommend taking used carpet to the landfill, but this is not good for the environment. CARE (Carpet America Recovery Effort) promotes proper disposal of post-consumer carpet. CARE’s website helps you find a carpet collector in your area.

2.    Who Should I Hire to Install My Carpet?

Carpet installation might seem like a DIY project, but it’s best left to the professionals. Specifically professionals who follow CRI 104/105 Installation Standards. CRI 104/105 were created by professionals in the carpet industry and are the only installation standards recognized by the industry. CRI also recommends hiring a professional who has been certified by a credible third party.

3.    Learn to Take Care of Your New Carpet

Carpet technology has made a number of advancements in recent years including stain and soil resistance, but that doesn’t mean they don’t need to be cleaned. Proper cleaning starts with vacuuming and many manufacturers recommend specific vacuums for their carpet. In the case they don’t, CRI’s Seal of Approval certifies vacuums for their ability to clean carpet.

4.    Provide Proper Ventilation

After the installation is complete, you need to provide adequate ventilation. Open windows, doors and operate the fan of your HVAC system to get fresh air flowing. Ventilation removes the new carpet smell within 72 hours.

DIY Carpet Cleaning vs. Professional Carpet Cleaning Services – Highland Park, IL

If you are like many American homeowners, you know that spring is coming up soon and it’s time to think about spring-cleaning. One of the key priorities in spring-cleaning should be your flooring.

Winter brings in slush, sleet and dirt; and most of it winds up beneath our feet. Are you wondering the best route to go when getting your carpets cleaned, whether it’s prudent to hire a professional or try to tackle this task on your own? Here are some pros and cons of both.

Doing it yourself

One of the conveniences of cleaning your own carpeting is being able to do it during your own time. You can decide when it’s best for you to clean your carpets and what rooms you want to clean and when. This gives you some flexibility so you don’t have to get the job done all at once. You may also be the type of person that feels better when they do the job themselves. If you are that type, you may want to consider cleaning your carpets on your own.

Hiring a Pro

One of the benefits of hiring a professional residential carpet cleaning company is that you will get – of course – professionals. You don’t have to worry about moving large pieces of furniture, spending hours on a stubborn stain or questioning whether you are using the right products for your carpeting. It also frees up time for you to do other things around the house by having the pros come in and clean your carpet.

Before you consider hiring any professional carpet cleaning company, be sure they have the experience to get the job done. The Wiz Team has been serving the Highland Park area for more than 18 years.

FABRIC PROTECTION THAT REALLY WORKS – Algonquin, IL

DID YOU KNOW that one of the best ‘feel good’ experiences you can enjoy is having freshly-cleaned carpet or furniture?

And one of the most frustrating experiences you won’t enjoy is when, within just a few days, something like red wine, coffee or tea is spilled on that freshly-cleaned carpet or furniture.

This is not good!

So you feverishly apply all kinds of household cleaning products and scrub in desperation. That spot does look a little better but it is still there. You have an important appointment so you give up. When coming home a few hours later… it has grown! (This is another mystery and you might want to ask your carpet cleaning pro why this happens.)

All of this drama could have been avoided if you had asked for fabric protection when you had your carpet or furniture cleaned. You know, like Scotchgard or Teflon or some of the other products available to consumers.

Yes, fabric protection does cost a little bit more but… it’s worth it!

How does it work?

Fabric protection is quite a mystery to many, but basically what it does is act as a kind of invisible shield that repels most substances that are spilled.

You might compare this to waxing a car. You are providing protection to your paint job by applyingan invisible shield, and you know it is working because you can see water beading up on the surface.

Carpet and furniture fabrics need the same type of protection.

Besides the obvious immediate benefit of cleaning up fresh spills, you can rest assured that a protected carpet or piece of furniture is going to last longer because when something is clean, it performs better and increases the lifetime of the fabric.

This doesn’t mean you can skip regular cleaning. Anything that is dirty will wear out prematurely. Fabric protection enhances a good cleaning. It’s an added step that you want for your carpet and furniture in your home.

So you want peace of mind? The next time you have your carpet or furniture cleaned, ask for protection. You will like it… and so will your carpet and furniture.

The Wiz Team is a full service carpet cleaning and restoration service. We service Lake Forest, Highland Park, Glencoe, Winnetka, Wilmette Glenview, Northbrook, Deerfield, Buffalo Grove, Arlington Heights, Palantine, Lake Zurich, Barrington, Mundelein, and more. Five Ways Pet Odor in Carpet and Furniture Affects Your Health- Carol Stream, IL

Pets are lovable, adorable, funny and—unfortunately—smelly! Have you noticed pet odor in your carpeting or on your furniture? It’s one of the hidden “benefits” of owning a pet that you may not have known about. Read on about how pet odor can be affecting your health.

1. Allergens

For many people, pet dander doesn’t have a major effect on their respiratory health, but for those who are allergic or sensitive to pet dander, it can wreak havoc on their ability to breathe. Pet dander doesn’t normally have much of an odor, but if built up and left to sit, it will give off a scent.

2. Dirt

Dogs and outdoor cats may wind up in mud, dirt, leaves, or other outdoor debris and bring it into the house. To say the least, it does not smell pleasant. But you also don’t know exactly what they are bringing into the house, and it may be harmful.

3. Garbage

Another unpleasant thing your dog may bring into the home is garbage. Pets have been known to bring in trash and hide it in a room. Depending on its toxicity, garbage can cause health problems if not found and disposed of.

4. Skunk odor

If your dog or cat has ever been sprayed by a skunk, you know that it is a very unpleasant odor. Skunk odor itself cannot harm you, but if allowed to get into your furniture and carpeting, it may cause you stress trying to get the smell out.

5. Urine

All animals have accidents. Urine left to sit in carpeting, on an area rug, or on furniture can cause toxic fumes.

We love our pets, but they can be smelly at times. The Wiz Team can be your dog’s—or cat’s—best friend. We’ve been performing residential carpet cleaning in the Carol Stream, IL area for years. Our natural carpet cleaning technique is safe for kids and pets.
